My September Issue: Layering for the BOYS!

Hey peeps, I said I had something for the boys and here it is:
So I was having a look at J Crew’s seasonal lookbook, and they are filled to the brim with fantastic (if not over the top) examples of layering.
Proper layering is absolutely foundational to a man’s style.  Whether you live in snowy Boston or sunny Miami, whether it’s the peak of summer or the valley of winter, the principles of layering will help you craft the right look for whatever your day brings you.

Presenting my five golden rules for layering: (The Rule of Mr Kane lol)

Rule 1: Keep the First Layer Slim
Let’s face it: layering can be bulky.  But it doesn’t have to look that way.  How do you add layers without adding bulk?  Keep the first layer slim - in terms of both material and fit.  Your base layer should consist of thin fabrics that fit somewhat snugly; that way, other layers can fit on top without creating layers of bulk.

Rule 2: Mix Up the Length of Your Layers
When you’re layering, each piece on each layer has a purpose.  And for the most part, you want the layers to be visible, as this creates a more visually interesting look.  How do you make sure that each layer is visible?  Vary the length of each layer, so that each layer can be seen.  For example, if you have a tee shirt, a button-down shirt, and a sweater, let the tails of the button-down be seen from underneath the sweater.  And let the tee peek out from under the button-down.

Rule 3: Play with Textures
Women can play with silhouette when layering, but for men, the best bet is to play with texture.  Especially when creating monochromatic or duochromatic looks, a little texture goes a long way.  Pair a chunky knit with a smooth jersey - or a cozy thin knit sweater with a rough corduroy pant.  A little fabric juxtaposition can really make your look.

Rule 4: Don’t Be Afraid to Experiment with Color
Even if your wardrobe is dominated by blues, greys, and blacks, you don’t have to limit yourself to these colors.  And the easiest, least risky way to add color to your wardrobe is through layering.  You don’t have to gamble nearly as much on that blood orange sweater when it’s an ensemble player in your look instead of the star.  We love it when a bit of color peeks out from under a jacket lapel - or sweater - or even from between your pant leg and shoe with an arresting pair of socks.

Rule 5: Add an Element of Surprise
No great look is complete without that je ne sais quoi - that element that makes it uniquely you.  Maybe it’s the hint of a purple sweater peeking out from underneath your navy blazer.  Maybe it’s a well-placed handkerchief in your jacket pocket.  Maybe it’s a motorcycle boot that you paired with your trouser pants.  Whatever it is, this element of surprise is what makes your look your own.

Have a great layering tip?  Share your style in the comments!

My September Issue: Jaeger Fashion Week by Halima

Hello peeps!
How you all doing?
How was the weekend? Mine was a bit bussy, planning so many things for the Blog, one of those things were a Interview to my Best Friend Halima from I Eat London Blog: http://i-eat-london.blogspot.com/ about her London Fashion Week  experiences...
So lets go straight to bussiness, Here are my questions:

Was it you first time at London Fashion Week?
It was my first time, I was so excited and hopefully it won't be my last.
    • where did you got your tickets from? or Were you invited?
I was sort of invited. Vodafone were doing a promotion for their customers "a VIP experience" So i entered and luckily won two tickets to see the Jaeger show.

Where you nervous? worry? or stressed about iT?
      • I was soooo excited before during and after! I could´t even eat! I was too scared I`ll throw up with the excitment, on the Day I was so nervous, exicted and scared I might trip or something, I might be late, how shall i wear my hair?? It was emotional.

Did you Fall!? or Throw out!?
        NO!(laughed)
But I was walking like a Bride, The Payment was not heel friendly!

Who do you took with you?
      • I took my friend Fehmee who works for D&G

        Was she please?
she was probably more excited than me!

Any regrets taking her with you?
I had no regrets taking her at all! We had a blast

If she couldnt go, who would you have taken instead?
If I didn't take her then I'd def take my sister

How was it when you got the VIP invites?
When I got the txt from vodafone saying I've won 2 tickets, I actually screamed, I never win anything! So to get these tickets absolutely made my day!

Tell me about your LFW Look?
For my LFW look I wanted to keep it simple and just basically do a more polished version of my normal style
I played around with different looks and I was really drawn to the masculine\mod look

        Why that look?
On the day I wore a silk french connection shirt a black blazer, shoe boots, leather look leggings with a vintage chanel bag and an alexander mcqueen scull printed scarf

        Did you Like the Collection?
        I really liked the collection

Did you know about Jeager before you got to see her collection on Fashion Week?
Yes, I knew about jaeger and jaeger boutique so I was excited to see both

Will you go and see her collection showing again?
I would definitely go see the jaeger show again, it was fab

What collection would you love to see next time? Why?
There are so many collection I'd love to see, the ultimate has to be Chanel, I'm a huge fan of Karl Lagerfeld but also British designers like Mathew Williamson, Henry holland and Christopher Kane

How was being a VIP that night?
It was such a great experience, being a VIP for the day!

        What goodies you got?
We all received a goody bag with make up nail varnish voucher to spend at jaeger etc

        Any gossip from LFW?
The only gossip will be the people there are so snobbish!

        Talked to anyone famous?
I spotted a few models and bloggers but didn't get a chance to chat

        Did you like the experience?
I loved the experience I'd do it again in a flash, and I'm looking forwad to AW12!

So that means that you would go to LFW AW12?

Of course! I´m looking forward to it, I´ll make sure I go to more than 1 showw and def go to at least one NEWGEN show

Now tell me a bit about your Blog?

My blog is all about the food I love to eat in London and sometimes when I'm on holiday somewhere else. I'ts a hobby I guess because even if I wasn't blogging about it I'll still be going out there eating and trying new dishes. I also blog about fashion so you will get a few fashion posts on there!

        The End!

I hope you all like the Interview! I wanna give a Big thanks to Halima for her time and sharing her experience!
